Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the opening of Thompson Rome, a 69-room hotel owned and operated by AG Group s.r.l. and Rossifin Group. It is the first Thompson Hotels property in Italy.

The hotel sits in a reimagined 1940s building on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, steps from Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Colosseum. Original elements such as a marble staircase were restored, and a sculptural wall and inlaid floor by the Italian artist Gio Pomodoro, rediscovered during the renovation, were preserved.

Of the 69 rooms, 19 are suites, nearly one third of the offer, including a 104-square-metre Thompson Suite with an 80-square-metre private terrace. The art collection includes artists associated with the Scuola Romana and the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo, and a rotating artist-in-residence program is planned.

"The goal was to create a Thompson hotel that feels at home in Rome, a hotel travelers want to discover and Romans want to come back to," said Amar Lalvani, Chief Creative Officer of Hyatt Corporation. General manager Arturo Gomez said the team wants the hotel to be "a starting point for experiencing Rome in a more personal way".
