Marriott International has opened La Résidence Phou Vao, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Luang Prabang, its first property in Laos and its 800th in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region, the company said on 4 November 2026.

The 36-suite resort is not a new build. Described in the release as long regarded as one of Luang Prabang's most distinctive hilltop retreats, it now joins The Luxury Collection with its original architecture, tropical landscape and hilltop pool preserved, while interiors, the culinary concept and guest rituals have been reworked to meet brand standards. It sits on three acres of gardens about two kilometres from the old town and, according to Marriott, is the only hillside retreat within the UNESCO World Heritage zone.

Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, said the milestone "reflects the trust our owners and guests continue to place in Marriott International" and called Laos "an exciting new chapter" for the group. Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader of The Luxury Collection, said the resort "embodies the very essence" of the brand.

The offer is built around local character: La Brasserie de la Résidence serves contemporary French cuisine alongside a dedicated Lao tasting menu, a bar uses premium local spirits, and the Be Epicurean programme includes private dining at Villa des Arts, a preserved colonial residence nearby. The Mekong Spa offers five signature treatments drawing on Lao healing traditions, and guests can book excursions such as river cruises, the Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si Waterfalls.

The Luxury Collection counts more than 135 hotels in 41 countries and territories, while Marriott reported over 10,000 properties in 148 countries and territories as of 30 June 2026.
