Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Indonesian developer PT Citra Buana Prakarsa have signed a management agreement for Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort, a planned 140-key property that will be the first Hyatt Regency in the Riau Islands, according to the release. The resort is anticipated to open in 2031.

The resort will sit on the private island of Pulau Kapal Besar near Batam. Guests will travel via Nirup Island, where the nearest immigration checkpoint is located, before a short ferry to the resort. Hyatt said the total journey from HarbourFront in Singapore is expected to take around 50 minutes.

Plans include rooms and suites, a spa, fitness centre, outdoor pools and a Camp Hyatt kids' club with indoor and outdoor facilities plus an entertainment centre. The companies are positioning the resort for leisure stays, family holidays, weddings, celebrations and group gatherings, with the island's lake, mangroves and coastline as part of the offer.

Bastien Touzeau, Hyatt's Regional Vice President, Growth, for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, pointed to the island's "natural setting and convenient access from Singapore". Tommy Ho, Director of Business Development at PT Citra Buana Prakarsa, said the brand fits the developer's aim of creating island destinations "just a short journey from Singapore".

The project is part of a wider cluster plan. PT Citra Buana Prakarsa, founded in 1988 and based in Batam, already operates resorts on Nirup Island and has a hospitality portfolio of more than 1,400 keys. It plans to develop the neighbouring islands of Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil. Hyatt Regency counts more than 245 locations in over 50 countries.
